Nibbleish and Dish Deli

I have my Nibbleish Privilege Card winners! I wrote all the names on the piece of paper and tossed it in a box and picked them out at random…and I also realised that I have 4 cards to give away not 3…so in no particular order these are the lucky people I drew out of the hat: Tim from 3 Meals , Vivien from Ho Jiak, Carol, and Lyrical Lemongrass from A Whiff of Lemongrass . I’ll be in touch with you to send you your card! And now on to the post for the day…

A few weeks back I went for lunch with my sister and her boyfriend RG…RG is from the UK and he loves his traditional Sunday roasts so they insisted that we go to this new place called Dish Deli…delicious home style Sunday roasts and very good value for money at RM28 for roast beef, roast veggies, Yorkshire pudding and a peach cobbler dessert…I couldn’t say no to that!

Dish Deli’s menu is filled to the brim with wholesome home cooked food and not only can you dine in and enjoy these favorites on site but they’ve also made it convenient for customers to buy frozen items which can be easily reheated at home. Owners Heidi Shamsuddin and Annette Isaac have invested in a blast freezer which makes freezing food a breeze. This machine can take food from hot temperatures right down to freezing in a matter of minutes and this helps the dish to retain its flavour and have that just cooked feel to it once it has been reheated.

The frozen food menu is aptly named Dish n’ Dash and consists of almost everything they serve at the restaurant. Some of these meals include roast chicken, casseroles, beef stew, cottage pie, pasta sauces, and some local favourites such as beef rendang, soto ayam Johor and masak lodeh. They also have a great kids menu so that parents don’t have to worry about their kids getting a healthy balanced meal.

On my first visit here I went for the exact dish that RG and my sister enticed me with…the delicious Sunday roast.

A thick slab of roast beef doused generously with gravy served with a traditional Yorkshire pudding and roast veggies on the side. The meat was nicely cooked; tender and flavorful. My only gripe would be that the cut of meat is slightly fatty but once you cut around it there is nothing but pure carnivore pleasing sweetness. This was also my first time eating Yorkshire pudding which is a sort of pastry that is meant to mop up all the gravy from a roast, hence its plain eggy taste…not my cup of tea…but I suppose it’s a think you love if you grew up in the UK. All in all I was happy though…especially with the service and the value for money so I went on another visit to try a few different dishes.

On my second visit I savored a few of the other dishes on the menu. First up was the house salad with balsamic mushrooms.
A plate full of vibrant fresh greens arrived with plump mushrooms scattered about; the peppery arugula goes very well with the juicy grilled mushrooms.

Next, one of the popular dishes here, the fish pie.

This is filled with pieces of poached Dory as well as tuna and egg under mashed potatoes. This is creamy and rich spelling oooey gooey goodness upon first bite.

A favorite of mine is the homemade pesto spaghetti topped with slices of grilled chicken. This simple bright green dish is bursting with flavour, strong heady basil, punches of garlic, and a good nutty olive oil rounds out the taste.

With all of these comfort foods on their menu I know where I’ll be stopping the next I need to have a healthy meal or grab something nutritious and satisfying to pop in the microwave!
