Olio

When I was in Penang over break I discovered a new restaurant and decided to give it a try. Upon first glance the decor has a Bali/Phuket feel to it...it's very simple and yet cozy. When R and I took a seat we were immediately attended to...the waitress brought over our menus and explained a few things to us...The menu mainly consists of pastas, burgers, and sandwiches...all of it looked delicious...but I'm sure you can guess what I went for...of course I had to give the burger a try!
The burger was simple but tasty...sometimes it's better to just have a burger without all the specialty toppings...this only works of course if a restaurant understands the makings of a basic burger. This dish was accompanied by roasted potatoes instead of the usual french fries. I have to admit that I did miss the fries a little...but I suppose I can't always have the exact same meal everywhere I go...

For dessert R and I shared the Tiramisu and we were not disappointed! It was creamy and delightful without being overly rich. The fruits served well as decoration but also added to the flavor...and I'm sure you'll agree with me that the presentation was gorgeous!
After the meal, the manager Melissa came over to our table to introduce herself and ask about our meal. She told us that the chef is one of the best on the island and that he is very passionate about his work...I would have to agree with her!

We enjoyed our lunch at Olio so much that on the last day before we left the island we stopped in for a quick brunch...I enjoyed a creamy latte and a tuna baguette sandwich...I don't know about you...but there is something so satisfying about a simple and messy tuna baguette sandwich...We once again enjoyed our meal as we sat and read the papers....wishing that our holiday did not have to end...

I hope this Olio survives long enough until I try their menu. Next time, you're in the area, look for Bella Italia with their brick oven pizza. This is one of their branch in Batu Ferringhi. The main restaurant is in Belissa Row at Pulau Tikus. This restaurant is one of the few that survives the Penang tastebuds :-D
