The Pink Sage

Brunch is something I came to love when I lived in the States...in fact I never even knew what it was before living there and then overnight it became a trend!

During my university days in Pittsburgh I loved waking up every Saturday morning for brunch...the main cafeteria had endless options...bacon, sausages, eggs in any style, pancakes, waffles, cereal, breads, pastries...the list could go on and on...while the quality was not top standard it was great for any college kid looking for a cheap all you can eat scenario….not to mention a great hangover cure.

Then I moved to New York and brunch had a whole new meaning there! It was the super trendy thing to do…get together with a bunch of friends in the late morning and just hang out at a chic cafĂ© with a brunch platter…and sometimes even a mimosa…or a glass of champagne. It was what everybody who was anybody was doing…

And a little over 2 years ago I moved back to Malaysia…and while there are a few spots to head to for brunch (aside from expensive hotel buffet ones)…it’s been hard to find a place that has good food served at decent prices and a cosy easygoing atmosphere…the kind of atmosphere that allows your lazy mornings to stretch on into the afternoon and beyond…

So you can imagine how excited I was when I found out about The Pink Sage Pantry -- a place that boasts a concept that fuses an American diner and an Italian trattoria…oddly enough it works! It’s a funky yet cosy little place that serves delicious food that doesn't cost a fortune.

R and I shared this 'Big Breakfast for 2'...two sausages, three eggs in any style, herb potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, baked beans, two slices of rye toast, and a slice of crispy beef bacon. This is a steal at RM25!

We also got an order of the cheese Quesadillas...these also came with baked beans on the side. They were delicious but the tortilla had more of a roti canai feel to it rather than a normal tortilla...but that made it interesting...more crispy and flaky...yumm!
The weekend brunch plate is also a great bargain with a smoked salmon cheddar omelette, fluffy buttermilk pancakes, french toast, mushrooms on toast, beef brisket and sweet sugared strawberries all for RM30. This is a large platter and I would recommend sharing.

My friends and I have been contemplating the same thing...how much we miss brunch in the US! Breakfast burritos, waffles with strawberry butter, home fries, or the Mediterranean inspired brunch that I had in New York with hummus and tabouleh....sigh...
